Wednesday is National Dog Day! We are Vodka for Dog People, so it’s one of our favorite days of the year (along with National Vodka Day on October 4th, of course).

An important part of the story here at Tito’s Handmade Vodka is the innate connection we have with our canine counterparts. Since the beginning, we have been committed to rescuing and protecting the dogs that have come into our lives, often serendipitously — many of whom now thrive alongside us at our distillery and our office.

Humans and dogs have co-evolved for thousands of years, and we wholeheartedly believe that this intrinsic bond makes both species stronger.

In the lean years, when Tito was just starting out, he was able to help strays who wandered near the distillery because of Emancipet, which offered affordable veterinary care in our own neighborhood. From there, we formed a partnership with this outstanding organization that’s dedicated to making spay, neuter, and preventive animal wellness accessible to everyone across the country through its expanding network of clinics, advocacy efforts, and training and support services for clinics across the US.

This was the foundation for how we came to be Vodka for Dog People, through which we continue to support Emancipet as they grow beyond Texas, and celebrate dogs (and cats!) and the humans who love and care for them! If you’re hosting your own National Dog Day party, or just sitting on your porch with your pooch, here’s a cocktail recipe that’s simple, thematic, and sure to get your tail wagging.

Tito’s Greyhound

Ingredients:

• 1.5oz Tito’s Handmade Vodka
• 3oz fresh grapefruit juice

Fill a lowball or rocks glass with ice. Add Tito’s Handmade Vodka and top with fresh grapefruit juice. Garnish with a slice of grapefruit or a sprig of rosemary.

Want to make it a Salty Dog? Just salt the rim of your glass before mixing your drink! A little salt can actually reduce the bitter taste of grapefruit.
