Tito's Super Bowl Bloody Marys

What’s the ideal drink to enjoy in preparation for (or to help recover from) a Super Bowl Sunday? The Bloody Mary of course!

Everyone seems to have specific preferences when constructing their own Bloody Marys at home, even Tito!

We asked him how he puts his traditional Bloody Mary together, and you can probably guess what he starts with. After pouring 2 ounces of his Tito’s Handmade Vodka into a shaker, he adds 3 ounces of tomato juice, the juice from one lime, a half teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, and a dollop of horseradish. He gives that a shake and pours it over ice into a glass. Tito likes to add a stalk of celery or a green bean as a garnish. For our photo of Tito’s Bloody Mary, we rimmed one of our brand new mason jar mugs (available here on our webstore) in cayenne salt for a kick. To make the cayenne salt, stir together 2 teaspoons of salt and a half teaspoon of cayenne pepper on a small plate. Wet the rim of a glass with a lime wedge or lime juice, and dip the rim of the glass into the salt mixture to coat.

If you are a Seattle Seahawks fan and want to color coordinate your Bloody Mary, we found a really delicious recipe (shared below) for a green Tomatillo Mary on Martha Stewart’s website

Ingredients for a Tomatillo Mary:
(Serves 4)

1 pound tomatillos, husked, rinsed, and chopped
1 medium English cucumber, peeled and chopped
1 jalapeno chile, seeded and chopped
3/4 cup cold water
3 tablespoons fresh lime juice (from 2 limes), plus 1 lime wedge
1 tablespoon sugar
Coarse salt
Cayenne pepper
1 cup chilled Tito’s Handmade Vodka

Directions:

  1. Puree tomatillos, cucumber, jalapeno, water, lime juice, sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and a generous pinch of cayenne pepper in a blender until smooth. Stir in vodka. Refrigerate until chilled, about 2 hours.
  2. Meanwhile, stir together 2 teaspoons salt and 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper on a small plate. Wet the rims of 4 glasses with lime wedge, and dip each in salt mixture, turning to coat. Stir Tomatillo Mary mixture well, and divide among 4 ice-filled glasses.

Note: The Tomatillo Mary mixture can be refrigerated for up to four hours before serving.
