Coupe de Grace

For years I have been searching for a set of coupe cocktail glasses, not tirelessly, but definitely on an ongoing basis. There is just something so divine about the right kind of drink in one of those gorgeous glasses, but alas they have gone out of vogue in the mainstream and have been relatively impossible to find (for under $80 a pair). Buuuuuuuuuut … fortune smiled on me this weekend when I went to the Settlement Home charity garage sale here in Austin, searching out random antiquities and such. Lo and behold, a mish mash of coupe glassware! I searched through and found three that matched and one that was close enough …

Once I got them home, I realized the most important next step was making a cocktail to pour into them and enjoy. I wanted something with a beautiful color, not too sweet, and that could take advantage of the wide surface of the coupe. Here’s what I came up with:

1.5 oz Tito’s Handmade Vodka
.5 oz Campari
1 oz pineapple juice
Shaken over ice and strained into the chilled coupe

My coupe creation

Tito’s makes a perfect canvas for this cocktail. Shaking the pineapple juice creates a luscious foam that sits gently on top of the drink and its combination with the bitter Campari made for such a nice balance of bitter and sweet all smoothed out by the clean taste of Tito’s. Deeeeeeelicious!!

Now … all I need is a name for this drink. Any suggestions???
