Tito’s Handmade Vodka Kansas City team field report:

The Great Plains SPCA in Kansas City was in dire straights, having over extended themselves with the number of animals they took in due to some extreme circumstances in the community. As a no kill-shelter and non-profit veterinary clinic operating in both Kansas and Missouri, they refused to give up on the animals in need. When we at Tito’s Handmade Vodka heard that they were in need of some help, we wasted no time reaching out to local radio station 96.5 The Buzz to help spread the word. The Buzz didn’t hesitate to jump in and gather the community in support of the Great Plains SPCA.

Great Plains SPCA Yappy Hour

Together, Tito’s, The Buzz and two local bars hosted Yappy Hours to raise awareness. The first event at The District Pour House raised over $1,600 in less than one week. The KC community and The District Pour House were quick to open their wallets and make donations to the cause by purchasing Vodka for Dog People products and sipping on some well made Tito’s drinks, all while enjoying a beautiful dog-friendly patio. The Buzz was on-site to give away tickets to the Halloweenie Roast (a concert with Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness, New Politics, and The Griswolds) every 15 minutes for the first hour of the event. The District Pour House provided appetizers and donated 100% of proceeds from Tito’s Handmade Vodka drinks to the cause.

The second Yappy Hour, which raised over $2,800, was held at another local bar, Char Bar. On air in the week leading up to the event, The Buzz asked for people to join Tito’s Handmade Vodka at Char Bar in support of the Great Plains SPCA. The Buzz attended the event to once again provide concert tickets for lucky winners every 15 minutes. Over 70 people came out with their dogs to enjoy a night on the patio with delicious specialty cocktails for a great cause.

The culminating event for the Mega Match for the Great Plains SPCA took place at a downtown bar and theater. The Indie Bar on Main and the Midland Theater worked together to host one amazing party. Indie Bar kept the masses happy before, during, and after the show with Tito’s Handmade Vodka specials (and gave a portion of the proceeds to the Great Plains SPCA). The 4,000 attendees for the show at the Midland helped raise just over $2,000 for the cause. Before the main act took the stage, a DJ from The Buzz presented a check to Great Plains SPCA for $52,000 (thanks to an anonymous donor who matched ALL of Tito’s Handmade Vodka donations)!

A special thanks to the Kansas City community, The Buzz, The District Pour House, Char Bar, Indie on Main, The Midland Theater, and Tito’s Handmade Vodka for helping save one of the biggest no-kill shelters in the area!

Thanks to our Kansas City team for the incredible work they’re doing in support of the Vodka for Dog People program!
